Peculiarities of modern racial equality movements

In this rubric “The State of Racial Equality Movements Today”, we looked at a fairly large number of contemporary American organizations, campaigns and movements fighting for the rights of African-Americans (the main group of the population targeted by the organizations).

Some are very well-known and quite influential, while others are more local or not well promoted. In general, it can be noted that thanks to the Internet it is quite easy to attract the necessary attention, the public, which will if not join organizations and movements, then definitely take part through donations.

Like chameleons, many organizations and movements are adapting to the concerns of society. Their attention now turns to an increasing number of different minority groups: women, Latinos, members of LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, etc.

Moreover, a recurring feature of such movements and organizations is the fight against violence, the fight against the gun violence, the fight against police brutality. Almost all websites have various articles, sections or a couple of phrases on these problems.

This new format of online organizations is convenient to reach a large audience, whereas before you had to meet in person. However, judging by the official YouTube channels of these organizations, one cannot say that they are very popular. There are usually quite few subscribers, likes and views in general.

Although this is just a so-called add-on (the bonus), the basic information, documents, goals and other things are still on the websites or social networks.

So, to sum up, many of modern organization, movements and campaigns are quite similar, but of course not the same.
