Campaign Zero

Campaign Zero was launched in August 2015 as a research-based platform “to move to an understanding of public safety beyond policing” [1]. Basically, it is a project of the non-profit organization, WeTheProtesters.

A bit more about the movement campaign. It was launched due to protests in Ferguson, Baltimore and other cities over cases of policy violence towards civilians.

Members of the campaign call on local, state and federal lawmakers to take immediate actions to end this issue. They tend to raise awareness of the society, they voice out problems in all spheres of life, particularly in public health, public safety and community condition in general.

The recent report “Exploratory Analysis of Nix the 6 Law Enforcement Collective Bargaining Agreements” dated October 31st 2022 “ends with a case study of how the Austin Justice Coalition (AJC) … organized and successfully reinvented the Austin Police Department’s CBA in 2017 which paved the way for continued reinvention in the aftermath of the tragic killing of George Floyd. Coalition building, political environment, and continued organizing were some of the key contributors in their success” [3].

Thus, we can say that what they do now is also revisioning particular cases connected with police violence towards civilians, particularly Black ones.

Nevertheless, in the picture below we can see the progress already made by this campaign.

However, despite visible progress, more action is needed.
