BYP 100 movement

Nowadays, racial movements are also aimed at gender equality. A perfect example is BYP 100 (Black Youth Project 100).

It was found in 2013 and in short it is “a member-based organization of Black youth activists creating justice and freedom for all Black people” [1]. Interesting fact is that initially it was just a hashtag for “Beyond November Movement Convening” [2].

“She Safe, We Safe, our current national campaign, is a transformative movement campaign to put an end to the different forms of gender violence that Black women, girls, femmes and gender non-conforming people face everyday” [3]. These are their words. They pretty much speak volumes. This movement emphasizes the issues that concern American society at this stage of historical development.

We can say that it is quite specified movement in comparison with those organizations and movements that were discussed in the previous posts of this rubric. As it is stated in the slogan above it is aimed at females and members of LGBTQ society.

If we look at their site, we can say that to some extent their attitude is straightforward and bold [4].

Well, what they do now is training in grassroot organizing, fundraising, public policy debate, electoral organizing. Members are also involved in making videos, graphics, blogs connected to the “anti-Blackness”, in political education and raising awareness in society [5]. We can tell it is a peaceful and versatile movement, which has already achieved much.
