The prerequisites for the beginning of BLM movement: Trayvon Martin’s case

Black Lives Matter Movement has very deep roots. It is the evidence of the racial inequality and mistreat that has lasted for centuries. But the actual movement was founded in 2013. The reason was Trayvon Martin’s case.

Trayvon Martin was an African American teenager from Florida. On February 26, 2012 he was shot by a volunteer who was patrolling the townhouse community. The case took place in Sanford. Trayvon Martin was unarmed.

What happened between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman (the volunteer) was that they had an argument and a physical altercation and Zimmerman shot the teenager on the purpose of self-defense.

6 weeks later watchman George Zimmerman was arrested and tried for second-degree murder. It was expected to be as the case of O.J. Simpson trial almost 20 years prior to Martin’s murder. This case was also based on the racially polarized.

We will discuss what exactly influential politicians said about Martin’s murder but obviously he was a victim, an unarmed teenager who was severely murdered.

However, very quickly in turned out that Trayvon Martin was not so innocent. He had got suspended for writing an inappropriate abbreviation on a school locker. Moreover, according to a forensic report big amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) was found in his blood. This chemical indicates marijuana.

So, Trayvon Martin was not a sweet-faced teenager anymore. However, are those misdemeanors enough to be shot dead? Trayvon was put as a villain. Trayvon’s parents were criticized too.

During the trial process, the atmosphere in the town became very charged. Zimmerman’s cause was adopted by white nationalists and it was considered that he was a martyr. Zimmerman’s acquittal led to protesters’ for racial justice marching.
