National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

In this post we are going to introduce you to one of the oldest and biggest organization specialising in advancing justice for African Americans - National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), which was formed in 1909. So, it has quite a long history.

In brief, the NAACP had a lot of great achievements throughout the years and now, its mission in the 21st century is "to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination" [1].

Its current activities consist of Youth sections: more than 600 groups and 30,000 members. For instance, the Youth and College Division main goal is to bring racial discrimination, its causes and how it can be avoided to light. Moreover, the members stimulate the society to appreciate African Americans, their culture, their contribution to the country [2].

Programs, organized to support colored youth, also work successfully since 1978 without getting in conflicts and other difficulties. They are designed to recognize and award Afro American youth and their accomplishments in all spheres of education [3]. The recent national convention was held in 2022 in Atlantic City.

Thus, the NAACP still works successfully and peacefully for over 113 years. It is a great example of an organization that works hard enough to make progress in the society and still shows much potential.
