The modern Civil Right Movement focuses on broadening their opportunities.
The African American civil rights movement made a huge impact on many other movements: e.g., the immigrant rights demonstrations all around the country. For instance, the most progressive group in this movement in college attendance consists of African American women. However, Alan Jenkins, executive director and co-founder of The Opportunity Agenda, says that in other areas there still are some unsolved problems. Inequality and discrimination still exist in schools, criminal justice system and elsewhere. There is still certain amount of unawareness when it comes to all this spheres where discrimination is ordinary [1].
To improve community awareness of the biases they have towards racism, Harvard University made an online test called `Implicit Association Test`. The main point is to show images of people from various racial groups and pair them up with both positive and negative words. It really demonstrates that everyone has these so-called implicit biases. The value of this test is that it can make us realize the stereotypes that we all have in our minds, even if we do not acknowledge them [2].
